How it works

  1. 1Strips needed = total wall width ÷ the roll width, rounded up.
  2. 2Each strip is the wall height plus the pattern repeat, plus a little for trimming top and bottom.
  3. 3Strips per roll = roll length ÷ strip length, rounded down. Leftover pieces are not counted.
  4. 4Rolls = strips needed ÷ strips per roll, rounded up. Doors and windows are not taken off, which leaves a sensible margin.

Questions

What is the pattern repeat?

It is the height at which the pattern starts again, printed on the label. A large repeat means more waste per strip, because each strip must line up with the one next to it. Plain papers have no repeat.

Should I buy an extra roll?

It is wise, because rolls from a later batch can differ in shade. Check that every roll has the same batch number before you start.

What size is a wallpaper roll?

Roll sizes vary by maker and range. The width and length are printed on the label. The calculator starts with a common size, so change both numbers to match your rolls.
