List your businessAbout solar panel installers in Malta
Solar panel installers in Malta design and fit photovoltaic (PV) systems on roofs: the panels, the mounting frame, the inverter and, more and more often, a battery. They size the system to your roof and your use, connect it to your electrics and the grid, and arrange commissioning. Many also service, move or extend existing systems, which matters when the roof needs waterproofing.
Roof space is the limit for many homes. Water tanks, washing lines, shade from taller buildings and the rest of the roof all compete for it. In a block of flats, find out who owns the roof and agree it with the other owners first. Grant schemes run by REWS open and close in calls, and the order you apply and buy in can matter.
Price depends on the system size, the panel and inverter models, whether a battery is included, the frame (flat, raised or tilted), the cable run and any electrical upgrades, plus scaffolding or lifting. Ask for a quote that names each model, the expected yearly output on your roof, and the warranties on the panels, the inverter and the workmanship.

What you can hire them for
- Design and install a PV system
- Add a battery to an existing system
- Replace a failed inverter
- Lift and refit panels for roof waterproofing
- Extend a system with more panels
- Clean and check panels
- Fit a raised frame over a roof terrace
- Help with grant scheme paperwork
What to ask before you hire
- 1
Are the panel and inverter models on the REWS list of registered products?
- 2
What yearly output do you expect on my roof, and how did you work it out?
- 3
Who will commission the system and sign the commissioning certificate?
- 4
What warranties come with the panels, the inverter, any battery and your workmanship?
- 5
If a grant is open, in what order should I apply, sign and install?
- 6
If the roof needs waterproofing later, will you lift the panels and at what cost?

Good to know in Malta
- The Regulator for Energy and Water Services (REWS) ran the 2026 Renewable Energy Sources Scheme for PV systems and battery storage on residential properties. It stopped accepting applications from 12 September 2026. Check the REWS website for any new call before you count on a grant. Source
- Under the 2026 scheme, Part A of the application had to be submitted before buying and installing the equipment. Part B came after installation and commissioning, with a commissioning certificate issued by a warranted electrical engineer. Source
- For a grant under the 2026 scheme, the model and manufacturer of the equipment had to be registered with REWS. The list of registered manufacturers and models is published on the REWS website. Source
- Under the Electrical Installations Regulations (S.L. 545.24), installing, altering, extending or certifying an electrical installation needs an authorisation from REWS. Source
Questions
How much do solar panels cost in Malta?
The price depends on how many panels fit your roof, the panel and inverter models, whether you add a battery, the type of frame and the electrical work needed. A grant, when a scheme is open, changes what you end up paying. Ask several installers for quotes that name each model and give the expected yearly output, then compare the cost against the output, not only the headline figure.
Is there a grant for solar panels in Malta?
REWS runs grant schemes for PV systems and batteries in calls that open and close. The 2026 Renewable Energy Sources Scheme stopped accepting applications from 12 September 2026, so check the REWS website for a new call. Under the 2026 rules you had to apply before buying or installing anything, so do not sign with an installer until you know what is open and what it requires.
Do solar installers work in Gozo?
Ask each installer whether they cover Gozo and whether moving panels and kit across is priced in. Wind on open roofs and high ground makes the frame and fixings worth discussing. Also ask who will come over for servicing or a fault after the job is done, since an inverter that stops working needs a quick visit.
How do I choose a solar installer?
Ask whether the panels and inverter are on the REWS registered product list, who will sign the commissioning certificate and which REWS electrical authorisation the person doing the wiring holds. Compare warranties and ask who handles a claim. If you can, look at systems they fitted a few years ago. Tminta does not vet installers, so make these checks before you pay a deposit.
