A wedding planner helps you choose and book the venue and suppliers, keeps track of the budget and the timeline, and runs the day so you do not have to. Some offer full planning from the first venue visit to the last dance. Others do partial planning, or only coordinate the day itself once you have booked everything.
Couples who live abroad often hire a planner because they cannot visit every venue and supplier in person. A local planner knows which venues cope with summer heat, a church ceremony, a civil wedding or a seaside reception, and can help with the timing of the Marriage Registry paperwork. Couples living in Malta tend to hire one when work leaves no time, or for a big guest list.
The fee depends on how much of the planning they take on, the number of guests, how many events there are (welcome drinks, ceremony, reception, a brunch the day after) and travel, for example to Gozo. Some planners charge a set fee, others a share of the total budget. Ask whether they earn commission from the suppliers they recommend.

Good to know in Malta
- Under the Marriage Act (Cap. 255), a marriage in Malta must be preceded by the publication of banns at the Marriage Registry. The written request, signed by both partners, must reach the Registrar earlier than six weeks before the wedding (the Registrar may accept less in special circumstances), with each person's birth certificate and a sworn declaration that there is no legal impediment. Source
- A marriage contracted more than three months after the banns are first posted up is void, so the banns have to be published again if the wedding moves past that point. Source
- Every marriage in Malta must take place in front of at least two witnesses, besides the person officiating. Any person over eighteen can be a witness, including a relative. Source
Questions
How much does a wedding planner cost in Malta?
It depends on how much they do. On-the-day coordination costs less than full planning from the first venue visit. Guest numbers, the number of events, travel to Gozo and extra days all add to it. Some planners charge a fixed fee, others a share of the budget. Ask each one for a written list of what is included and whether they take commission from suppliers.
Can we get married in Malta if we live abroad?
Yes, many couples from abroad marry in Malta. The Marriage Act requires banns to be published at the Marriage Registry before the wedding, and the request needs both your birth certificates and a sworn declaration from each of you. A planner can help you fit this around your travel dates. Check the full list of documents with the Marriage Registry before you book flights.
Do wedding planners work in Gozo?
Some planners are based in Gozo, and some Malta planners regularly run weddings there. A Gozo wedding needs extra logistics: suppliers and guests crossing on the ferry, transport between ceremony and reception, and places for guests to stay. Ask the planner which Gozo venues they have worked at and how they handle supplier travel on the day.
How do I choose a good wedding planner?
Ask for references from couples married recently and speak to one of them. Look at real weddings they planned, not styled photo shoots. Make sure you get on with the person, since you will be talking to them a lot. Get the fee, payment dates and cancellation terms in a contract. Tminta lists planners but does not check them, so these steps are yours.
